Associate Veterinarian

Job Summary
The Associate Veterinarian is responsible for maintaining animal health by diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries. The Associate Veterinarian works under the direct guidance and supervision of the owner doctor(s) of the veterinary hospital or clinic. The Associate Veterinarian is to make every effort to help improve the quality of care given to the patients of the veterinary hospital.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Examine animals to detect and determine the nature of diseases or injuries.
  • Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds, performing surgery, or other therapies.
  • Inoculate animals against various diseases.
  • Collect body tissue, feces, blood, urine, or other body fluids for examination and analysis.
  • Perform laboratory procedures and diagnostic tests, including parasitology, hematology and urinalysis.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment, such as radiographic and ultrasound equipment, and interpret the resulting images.
  • Administer anesthetics, perform surgery, and monitor patients during surgery and recovery with the assistance of the technical team.
  • Follow discharge guidelines for hospitalized and post-surgery patients and treatment plan guidelines for clients to ensure proper patient treatment in the home environment including client follow up post hospitalization.
  • Answer client questions and provide education on various aspects of animal care and treatment. Advise animal owners regarding sanitary measures, feeding, and general care necessary to promote health of their pets.
  • Educate the public about diseases that can be spread from animals to humans.
  • Call back/follow-up with clients; recommend medical progress visits when appropriate.
  • Humanely euthanize animals when it has been mutually agreed upon by the patient’s owner.
  • Document actions by completing forms, reports, logs and patient records.
  • Train and supervise team members who handle and care for animals; as needed.
  • Deal with clients and employees in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact and professionalism.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to the healthcare team that will positively influence the level of care and service provided to the clients and patients of the veterinary hospital.
  • Commitment to practicing the highest standard of medicine, upholding the veterinary code of ethics.
  • Participate in business development as instructed by management and/or ownership.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs and stand for long periods of time
  • Perform other duties assigned

Qualifications

  • Obtained a degree from an accredited veterinary college
  • Valid and in good standing veterinary license in the state of Nevada

Licensed Veterinary Technician

Job Summary
The Licensed Veterinary Nurse (LVT) assist the veterinarian in providing medical care and treatment for animals and exceptional customer service to clients, recordkeeping, and other activities related to the smooth operations of the hospital.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide care for animals including vaccination and performance of medical treatments
    as prescribed by a veterinarian.
  • Collect samples for testing and perform laboratory tests and radiographs
  • Administer anesthesia and monitor animals under anesthesia.
  • Monitor the health of the animals on an ongoing basis and rapidly identify any health problems or conditions and immediately report it to the veterinarian.
  • Maintain patient records by accurately recording treatments and test results on patient charts and other medical records.
  • Administer medications to pets
  • Track inventory of supplies and coordinate ordering
  • Assist veterinarians in medical and surgical procedures
  • Assist with proper animal handling and restraint.
  • Provide medical and care information and counseling to clients
  • Document actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and patient records
  • Fill client prescriptions and maintain drug logs as required
  • Use and maintain medical equipment
  • Greet, assist and/or direct clients, patients, and the general public
  • Perform some clerical duties, including answering incoming calls and directing as appropriate, receiving deliveries, and preparing client requests
  • Ability to lift 50lbs and stand for long periods of time
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) in Nevada. Must maintain a license with the Nevada State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners during employment
  • Experience in caring for and handling animals in a safe, effective, and humane manner
  • Knowledge of hospital maintenance techniques and accepted sanitary practices
  • Knowledge of the use, care, and storage of veterinary instruments, materials, and equipment including sterilization techniques for various instruments and materials
  • Knowledge of various breeds and their characteristics and familiarity with symptoms of diseases common to dogs and cats
  • Knowledge of animal behavior
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Able to work in the busy, demanding environment of a veterinary hospital
  • Ability to function in a variety of clinical situations and to render a wide spectrum of patient care
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with staff and clients.
  • Ability to identify problems or patient conditions (medical and behavioral) that need to be brought to the attention of the veterinarian
  • Comfort and ability to work with animals of unknown disposition and those who may exhibit medical and other problems, as well as aggressive tendencies

Veterinarian Assistant

Job Summary
The Veterinary Assistant provides support by handling daily clinical procedures, caring for
animals, and assisting the Veterinarian and Veterinary Technicians in their daily tasks.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare charts for the day
  • Set up procedures
  • In charge of patient intake
  • Obtain vitals of patients
  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with lab work
  • Monitor animals under anesthesia
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain kennels, operating rooms, examining rooms, cages, and surgical equipment
  • Comfort and restrain pets during examinations and care
  • Assist in providing first aid to pets in an emergency
  • Fill medications for pets
  • Greet, assist and/or direct clients, patients, and the general public
  • Call back/follow-up with clients
  • Perform some clerical duties, including answering incoming calls and directing as appropriate, receiving deliveries, and preparing client requests
  • Ability to lift 50lbs and stand for long periods of time
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Customer service and veterinary experience preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
